An evening at KL highest bar – Cacao Mixology & Chocolate, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.
There are days when slowing down becomes necessary, and an off-day recently turned into the perfect opportunity to indulge in a little self-care. This time, the destination was Cacao Mixology & Chocolate Bar for Summerkid – at the newest 5-star hotel in town – Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, on the 75th floor of PNB118. Apart from being the highest bar in the city, Cacao Mixology & Chocolate stands out as Southeast Asia’s only chocolate-themed bar, where cacao is not simply an ingredient but the very essence of the experience.
Summerkid had a reservation here until 8PM, and since the timing aligned, Summergirl get to disturb his me-time for a while after work. Walking into the space was instantly uplifting. The design of the hotel itself was stunning – elegant in tone, carefully detailed, and striking panorama of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. We were lucky enough to catch a glowing sunset as the backdrop, which only made the experience more memorable.
The menu tells its story through cacao. There are cacao flights that showcase pairings of rum, cognac, or whiskey with artisan chocolates such as the 70% dark chocolate from Kelantan, Li Chu 64 % Chocolate, or Chef Holger Deh’s 71% creation. The chocolate block experience is a must-try – chocolate slab at the Chocolate Table and served with pairing suggestions, making it both interactive and indulgent. Desserts and cocktails continue this narrative, presenting cacao in ways that are thoughtful and refined.
Left – Cacao Club; Right – Whisky Sour
For cocktails, the Cacao Club (RM75) was an obvious choice, highly recommended as one of the bar’s signatures. This creation blends Johnnie Walker Black Label with Li Chu 64% Raspberry, Ratafia Rossi, and a subtle touch of durian, brightened with lemon and topped with delicate foam. The durian was surprisingly understated, adding depth without overwhelming the drink. Alongside it, the Whisky Sour (RM65) offered a more familiar comfort – refreshing, easy to drink. The only regret was noticing the absence of our usual order of Old Fashioned on the menu – perhaps something to ask for on a return visit.
Left – Cacao Club; Right – Welcome Drink Kombucha
Behind the bar, Beverage Manager Lee Wei Lung brings these creations to life. Having begun bartending in 2018, he quickly rose in Malaysia’s cocktail scene and in 2024 represented the country at the Monin Cup in France, where he emerged as National Champion, APAC Second Runner-Up, and Global Finalist. His approach treats every cocktail as a story, carefully considering aroma, texture, and finish. Also, the shinning star Executive Pastry Chef Holger Deh, whose expertise with chocolate and dessert is expressed most vividly at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.
Even though we managed to spend just few hours at Cacao Mixology & Chocolate this round, it is certainly a place we’ll be back again. We are already planning to return for their afternoon tea to savour the legendary mille-feuille, and to experience a leisurely set lunch with a view at Merdeka Grill.
