With The Exchange TRX becoming one of the popular lifestyle and dining destinations in Kuala Lumpur, there’s certainly no shortage of eateries to explore in the area, from trendy cafes to laid-back restaurants and refined dining concept – there is something for everyone, for almost every occasion.

But if you are looking to venture beyond the usual mall dining scene, we would like to recommend Iki Omakase, located just a short walk from the TRX precinct. It is tucked along Jalan Kamuning, Off Jalan Imbi, next to OGA, which is also a nice cafe for authentic Japanese tea experience.

Housed in a bungalow building, the interior of Iki Omakase carries a blend of Japanese aesthetic and contemporary touch in earthy tone. Dark timber furnishing, textured brickwork, stone surfaces; soften by arrangement of dried foliage, warmth ambient lighting. Raw yet refined, full of character.

15-seat counter seats, where you get to watch skillful chefs in action.

Calm and cozy setting, sitting in here make us feel like we are getting a pause from the urban bustle beyond its doors.

Iki Omakase takes pride for Japanese tradition of omakase, featuring set courses emphasizes on high quality seafood, seasonal ingredients and freshest available produce imported from Japan. Each dish is carefully prepared and presented by chefs with years of collective experience under their belts.

Iki Omakase offers multiple Lunch Omakase Course from RM238++, and Dinner Omakase Course, from RM368++ onwards. Guided by the seasonality, availability and choice of menu, dishes served evolves daily to ensure the quality at its best. This is also the part we enjoyed most for omakase, where no two visits are quite the same, making each time a unique one.
If you are planning for an event, the team can also curate a menu tailored to your tastes and preferences, enhancing your dining exclusivity.

We tried the Iki Special Omakase ROZU Course, where we get to explore some of the best-in-season-ingredients, such as this Winter delicacy Seko Gani, of female snow crab, celebrated for its vibrant orange roes.

Luscious bowl of premium ingredients – Lightly torched fresh, bouncy prawn, topped with uni and Ikura, plus a dollop of Kizami Wasabi on the side. A lovely interplay of flavours here, from the natural sweetness of ebi to the savoury, briny notes of uni and Ikura.
Had them in the original combination first, then add wasabi relish for another bite. That little hint of clean, sharp heat made quite a difference! It cuts through the richness, bringing all the flavours beautifully.

Another noteworthy course is the Kinki Fish.

Caught from cold deep sea, famous for its high fat content and delicate white flesh. The bones were deep fried and served alongside, completely edible!

This hot dish is such as comforting bowl of goodness, with thinly sliced A5 wagyu in warm sukiyaki-style broth.

The chef suggested us to wrap the wagyu with egg yolk, then popped it straight into our mouths.
Oh-the-combination! Love it!

Almost-melt-in mouth tenderness, accompanied by creaminess of egg yolk was just so satisfying. Another wrap came with foie gras, which brought different depth of creaminess – deeper flavour, equally delicious.
Summerkid’s top pick of the evening.

After 4 seasonal appetizers, seasonal hot dishes and signature dishes, our meal continued with 5 types of sushi – Sayori, Chutoro with Caviar, Hokki gai, Kinmedai, Otoro & Uni wrapped in a sheet of crisp nori.
Summerkid was really happy to get Otoro and Uni – two of his all-time favourites! So good!

Miso soup

End our meal sweet with black sesame-based dessert. Not too sweet, with feuilletine flakes for extra light crunch.

Spotted this Zen-garden after our dinner and found that the establishment also has Iki Lounge YAKIBAR, an adjoining space focusing on casual Japanese-inspired dining and drinking experience.
Browse through the menu and saw that there’s Yakitori Omakase, Chef’s Selection of Handrolls with Yakitori, Wagyu Special Don, Kaisen Special Don, etc.. Not forgetting, handcrafted cocktails! Gonna put into our must-visit list.

Overall, had an amazing experience in IKI Omakase. The quality speaks for itself. Definitely one of the best in KL and one to keep in mind, for those looking for serious Japanese Omakase in Kuala Lumpur.
