Matcha Hero Kyoto @ Tokyo Street Pavilion KL: Noukou Matcha Ice Cream!

As the name tells, Matcha Hero Kyoto is all about premium Japanese matcha and green tea. Matcha Hero Kyoto opened in Tokyo Street Pavilion KL Shopping Mall about one month ago. We can hardly tell if this little store would bring in another round of Japenese matcha fever which happens to Nana’s Green Tea Japan, since Match Hero Kyoto specializes only in drinks and ice cream. Despite so, being a matcha and green tea lover, Summergirl will not miss a visit to Matcha Hero.

Not a frequent visitor to Tokyo Street Pavilion KL, so we only spotted Match Hero Kyoto after strolling around the area twice. The small shop is located beside Mochi Sweet, opposite to Komugi Bakery shop.

Matcha Hero Kyoto calls for simplicity in both the design and menu. Everything is clearly written on a menu board displayed outside the shop- Matcha drink, Houjicha drink, traditional drink (organic cultivated matcha, Uji Sencha, Houjicha, and Genmaicha), and ice cream.

Since we are not the expert in tea, and a bit shy to ask more to the-very-friendly Masahiro Onishi (the founder of Matcha Hero Kyoto who was brought up in Japan Kyoto), we ordered only a mixed ice cream priced at RM9.50. However, it is much advisable to consult, share with Onishi san on his experience on green tea while sipping a bowl of delicious, freshly brewed Japanese green tea by this cheerful man who wears smiles on his face all the time.

Our Noukou Matcha and Houjicha ice cream from Matcha Hero Kyoto is wonderful, lending velvety smooth, rich and melt-in-the-mouth sensation. One can either have double scoop of each flavour, or a mix of both to savour two flavours at the same time.

We love both the flavours, where Noukou Matcha tastes more bright, vegetal with mild sweetness, and the later, Houjicha (roasted green tea) delivers a faint hint of roasted aroma, a little chocolate-like. RM9.50 for double scoops, definitely worth the price!

Highly recommend all ice cream, Japanese matcha and green tea lovers to stop by Matcha Hero Kyoto at Tokyo Street Pavilion KL for a glass of Noukou Match Latte, Noukou Matcha Float, Houjicha Latte, Houjicha Latte Float, or ceremonial green tea.
