Good news to fan of Doraemon, you can now slip into the world of Doraemon at D’ Dream Café, SS2! Opened by Nicholas Lim, D’ Dream Café house about thousand of Doraemon collections from small toys, books, key chain, kites, bags, cards, bottles, towels, to paper lamps and even mahjung set. Oh-so-cute.

All these are precious collection of Nicolas, who is also a fan of Doraemon and started this passion at the very young age of nine. For all the years, he travelled from big city to inconspicuous spots, passionately looking for the trace Doraemon of all kinds. So it is not surprise to find tissue roll printed with Doraemon here. Yeap, cute, we like that.

Asking Nicolas on the background of café, he said that he had never thought of opening a themed café. Everything is by accident, and encouragement from friends and family has driven him to start his own business. He is right at the point that: instead of keeping the collections only to himself, why not sharing with the public?

While the whole cafe is surrounded by this charming Japanese character, the restaurant surprisingly not serving Japanese food, but authentic Taiwanese street foods at affordable price.

While we have seen many themed café putting expensive price tag for their food, D’ Dream Café however, is on the opposite side. Flipping through the menu, we could barely find anything which is above RM10.00, first good impression as you do not have to leave with a burnt hole in your pocket.

fried-dumpling

Fried Dumpling

minced-pork-rice

Minced Pork Rice (RM5.00)
Take the Minced Pork Rice as example. Priced at only RM5.00, the bed of rice is generously showered with braised minced pork in flavourful gravy, a simple pairing that is never too pale.

braised-pork-rice

Braised Pork Rice (RM7.50)
Apart from that, the diligent of Nicolas is seen through the way he prepare even the simplest ingredient-Rice. Their rice is a mix of glutinous rice, fragrance rice and white rice according to proper proportion, promoting a better overall texture, more chewy and not just plain sogginess of carb.

braised-beef-ramen

Braised Beef Ramen (RM9.00)
Do also try out their noodle series, the braised beef ramen which has smooth ramen and tenderly soft beef chunks immersed in a bed of nourishing soup gathering all the sweet essence of beef from long braised hours.

three-cup-phoenix-ramen

Three Cup Phoneix Ramen (RM7.00)
Dry version ramen topped over with San Bei Ji. So with a combination of rice wine, sesame oil and soy sauce, we expect the noodles to be loaded with flavours, but somehow it falls short of taste. Rendering with faint hint of herbs flavours, the noodles tasted very light, clean to the palate.

xiao-long-bao

Xiao Long Tang Bao (RM8.00/ 4 pieces)
The Xiao Long Tang Bao is passable, not top notch but still occupied the criterias of oozing stocks once biting through, with juicy minced meat encased within dumpling skin. Better if the skin can be thinner, softer. bouncy-golden-sweet-potato

Bouncy Golden Sweet Potato (RM6.00)
Deep fried to golden brown, the sweet potato is crunchy outside, chewy and bouncy inside with pleasant sweet element. Not oily, not cloying, just pretty good snack that is so addictive, you can hardly stop yourself to pop in one after another one. Highly recommended.
