The Champ Kitchen 豬多寳, a much talked about restaurant in Kepong Industrial Park (KIP) recently. Many say that this humble eatery serves one of the best braised pork knuckles in town, which somehow in line with their tagline -Malaysia’s No.1 restaurant specializes in pork knuckles / pork trotters 全馬首創冠軍豬手專賣店 .

Curiosity brought us over to The Champ Kitchen last weekend to check out their much raved about pork knuckle rice. We reached there past lunch time to avoid crowd, around 3PM but surprisingly, it was still 80% occupied. Busy staffs, hence it was expected to have no one attended to us even though we’ve sat down for some time, ready to order. Make sure you call out loud for ordering. Else, no one will bother.

Pork Rice 豬腳飯 RM8

The Champ Kitchen ‘s menu covers from individual rice & noodles dishes such as Pork Rice, Slow Braised Beef Brisket with Rice, Slow Braised Beef Brisket with Noodle, Pork Lard Rice, Pork Lard Noodle, Pork Noodle, Pork Hind Noodle, Spicy Pork Noodle to ala-carte sharing selections including Claypot Pork Knuckle, Vinegar & Ginger Pork Hind and Slow Braised Pork Hind. Additional special dishes are written on wooden planks, hanging on the walls.

Ordered the most popular rice bowl in The Champ Kitchen – Pork Rice 豬腳飯. A bowl of unpretentious comfort food, putting together two huge slices of braised pork knuckle, whole egg and preserved vegetables over a bed of white rice flavoured up with braised sauce. The clear winner is of course the pork knuckle slices, which take up 72 hours of cooking process to ensure the best texture and flavours possible for the meat.

The meat itself still maintains some chews, soft but not exactly melt-in-the-mouth, further laced with beautiful gelatinous skin layer. Aroma of spices come through deeper than the sauce, hence it milder, like home-cooked food. Good that it is not sickly loaded with only saltiness and sweetness of sauce to make it extra flavourful.

Pork Hind Soup Noodle 豬腳湯麵 RM10 (RM12 for double size noodle孖面)

Thin, springy wantan noodles immersed in a bed of cloudy, brownish broth, topped with braised pork hind, egg and chopped spring onions. Decent soup, better if alkaline flavour from the noodles could be lessen. Japanese style egg in The Champ Kitchen may be the crowd favourite, thanks to its half-cooked, runny egg yolk that oozes out once biting through.

Total bill for our meal in The Champ Kitchen was RM20 including a glass of Kamquat. Recommended for diners looking for simple, economical lunch or dinner at cheap price within RM10.
