Taste Enclave @ Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur

Nowadays, most food courts are no longer surrounded by stuffy environment and ordinary food, especially in shopping mall. In fact, there are clean, spacious and air conditioned, occupied by tenants which serve quality food. Taste Enclave which is newly opened in Avenue K, is one of the good examples.

Located in the second floor of Avenue K, next to Bankara Ramen, Taste Enclave stretches over 17,500 sq. feet and can seat up to 550 diners. There are 16 stalls all together, offering a wide range of local and international food to fulfill even the most discerning palate.

Each stall in this food atrium is brought in after careful measures, selecting Kuala Lumpur’s and Singapore’s finest hawker fare and mini restaurants to present wholesome dishes at reasonable price. Among the famous including Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice, Sentul Ah Yap Hokkien Mee, Svea Cafe and Jalan Kayu Prata.

The entire food atrium interior is as great as their food, boasting a combination of quirky and tactile decorations related to the whimsical themes of nature. Diners are welcomed into enchanted-like forest, giving a sense of tranquil while dining with comfort. The ‘out of city” impression.

Vietnamese Spring Rolls @ Wendy Vietnam Cuisine RM6.90
Ythu Wendy has established five outlets in food courts across Singapore, serving authentic, hearty Vietnamese food. Choose from wholesome Wendy Special Mango Salad, tenderly grilled Charcoal Pork Chop, comforting rice noodle with pork and seafood or crunchy refreshing Vietnamese spring rolls.

Dry Beef Noodle with Beef Tripes @ Stall No.21 Beef Noodle RM9.00
Take a spin off from famous Song Kee Beef Noodle and get a slurp on delicious beef noodle from Stall No.21, which unique name comes from the owner’s parents who started selling beef noodle stall at Stall No.21 in Cross Street, Kuala Lumpur. While the noodle is thin and springy, we find the winning point goes to the minced meat gravy comprises of beef and pork-firm in texture, deep in flavours. Tossed together with the noodle, we enjoy tucking into mouthful of aromatic, flavorful sensation.

Mix BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck @ Tong’s Roast RM11.90
We love this roasted duck from Tong’s Roast, succulent meat set off with a layer of crisp skin, moist fat, and a touch of salty after taste. It is a pleasure indeed to have Tong’s Roast opens up their first stall in Avenue K, bringing not only a good roasted fare to diners but also a next step to this 30-year-old roast meat wholesaler in Pudu Market.

Crazy Cheesy Chicken Wrap @ Wrap Time RM10.90
A simple, healthy and light choice for wrap lovers like Summergirl. Wrap Time generously filled their wrap with chicken, onions, and cheese, then served pipping hot so that diners can still capture the oozing goodness of cheese. Satisfying smile from Sumemrgirl, great, just onions are too much she said.

Chicken Omelette Roll @ Grandeur Teppanyaki RM10.90
Located an the entrance side of Taste Enclave, Grandeur Teppanyaki is an ideal choice for Teppanyaki lovers. Even though its location is in food atrium, the menu is complete with delicacies including Alaska Cod Fish Set, Angus Beef Set, Oyster set and Assorted Seafood Set that proves a fine, delicate flavours as many other restaurants. At the same time, the kitchen also goes creative by incorporating different ingredients to come up with something new yet carrying authentic elements, such as Bacon with Roe Chawanmushi and Chicken Omelette Roll for daily casual dining.

Chicken Skewer @ Hong Kee Vegetarian Cuisine RM3.50/stick
Considering the needs of vegetarians, Taste Enclave brought in Hong Kee Vegetarian Cuisine managed by Mr. Wong. Mr Wong has been in vegetarian business since 1987 at Jalan Hang Lekiu, and now this stall opens up in Tatse Enclave with over 40 types of vegetarian dishes daily. Apart from that, porridge, noodles and several stir fried dishes such as Kam Heong Fishballs, Abalone Mushroom, Butter Prawns and skewers are available too. We adore their chicken skewer, chewy mock meat smothered with sweet and smoky sauce, plus juicy munch from vegetables to balance up the overall flavour. Tastebud tickling, vegetarian food is not boring at all.

Sentul Ah Yap Charcoal Hokkien Mee RM9.90
‘Wok Hei’ is the most concerned criteria in a stir fried dish, and Sentul Ah Yap Hokkien Mee does well in this. With 5 outlets across KL and latest in Taste Enclave, they seem to manage to cater the crowd and quality by serving up to 300 plates a day in each outlet. Traditional cooking way using charcoal is used, having thick noodles being fried vigorously with dark sauce, prawns, fish cake and pork, locking good flavours and wok hei into the noodles at high heat, big fire.

Claypot Chicken Rice Set @ Huen Kee Claypot Rice RM16.80
Huen Kee Claypot Rice from Pudu Wet Market needs no further introduction, as their fame has brought them selling amount of 200-300 pots of claypot chicken rice a day. Their unique “two way heating system” using charcoal ensures sweet essence and juices of chicken are sealed in, while the dark sauce renders a distinctive flavours and fragrance to the rice. Portion is huge, one pot is sufficient for two persons.

Hakka Fried Pork @ Kepong Fishing Village Yong Tau Foo RM10.90
Perhaps yong tau fu is the main thing that drives diners to Kepong Fishing Village Yong Tau Fu stall, but their homemade Hakka Fried Pork, Hakka Stewed Pork, Dumpling Soup and Assam Fish are something worth mentioned too. We especially like their Hakka Fried Pork, crisp outside with a burst of fatty juiciness inside. Sinfully delicious.

Salted Egg Fried Chicken @ Xi Qing Seafood Restaurant RM15.00
Surprise to find a seafood restaurant nestled at the end of Taste Enclave, serving decent seafood and stir fried dishes prepared in multitude of tasty ways. Among them included Singapore famous Chilli Crabs, Black Pepepr Crabs, Salted Egg Fried Chicken, Coffee Pork Ribs and Red Wine Beef Hor Fun. Salted Egg Fried Chicken is highly recommended, having pieces of tender chicken gracefully coated with intense flavour of salted egg and subtle hint of curry leaves.

Assorted Rojak @ Jalan Kayu Prata
Roti Prata from Jalan Kayu Prata is highly recommended by the food atrium owner, Mr. Willie Tay. It is said that their buttery and rich roti prata with crisp golden layer is so mind flowing. Too bad we didn’t try that out during our visit, but we had a taste on their Singapore style assorted rojak which is pretty different from our local Rojak. It is piled high with prawn fritters, fried egg, onions, chilli, and cucumber, drizzled with creamy, peanuty sauce with a little sweetness. Almost like our satay sauce, minus the spiciness.

Dum Briyani Mutton @ Jalan Kayu Prata RM14.90
Nasi Briyani is good too, featuring a hearty portion of fluffy rice, curry mutton, egg, papadum and extra side of spicy gravy. Curry mutton is of medium spiciness to us, robust in flavour but the gamey taste of lamb is still distinct.

Meat Balls with Mashed Potato @ Svea Cafe RM15.90
Situated next to Xi Qing Seafood Restaurant is Svea Cafe, a Sweedish Cafe owned by Sweden, hence diners will be assured with classic, authentic Sweedish food such as hand tossed Swedish Pizza, Swedish Pork Chop, Swedish Meatball with Linguine, Seafood Cake and Cold Meat Cake. However, diners will expect spicier and heavier offerings, such as additional chilli flakes in pizza to cater local taste buds.
