Visited Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur with Ivyaiwei for a de-stressed weekend, pampering ourself with a wide array of chocolate goodness in their Chocolate Symphony “hi-tea” buffet. From chocolate cakes to chocolate sorbet, chocolate drink, chocolate waffles, chocolate mousse, chocolate biscuits, chocolate pralines, chocolate fondue, it is all about chocolate. Chocolate lovers, how can you not visit?
Chocolate Symphony buffet is held at the Lobby Lounge of Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur every Saturday, from 2.30PM till 5.30PM. It is priced at RM115 nett per person. Just pick one of the comfortable seats of either tables next to huge glass window with lots of natural lights flows in, or at the center of the lounge area, then get your stomach ready for the chocolate feast.
Hot Chocolate Drink Station
Begin with a wonderful hot chocolate drinks from the Hot Chocolate Trolley, prepared upon order. Bahine 46% milk chocolate, Blond Dulcey 32% Caramelized White Chocolate, Ivoire 35% White Chocolate, Guanaja 70% Dark Chocolate or Coeur de Guanaja Pure Dark Chocolate as the base, melts it down with fresh milk, low-fat milk or soy milk. Add on spices like cinnamon, clove, star anise and vanilla for extra aroma.
We were first told that Pure Dark Chocolate would be very bitter, but after trying out all five, we ranked it as our top favourite. The bitterness was just nice for us after balanced up with sweetness from milk, very rich, thick and creamy in every sip. White Chocolate Milk was too sweet to us, same goes to Caramelized White Chocolate but we somehow enjoyed the later too, thanks to it caramelized toffee-candy like.
Chocolate Dessert Counter
For the dessert counter, it is basically separated into milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate sections. Fill the plate with Cream Puff Dulce de Leche, Coconut Macaron, Milk Chocolate Macarons, Cat’s Tongue, Mango Pavlova, White Chocolate Macarons.
Chocolate Waffle with Berries
Chocolate waffle is made ala-minute, hence there’s no doubt on the freshness. We didn’t put much attention on the waffle initially but after trying out a small portion of it from our friends, we got hooked and ordered a helping instead. It is slightly crisp at the edge, fluffy soft at the centre. No over-chewy or doughy trace, goes well with berries toppings.
Chocolate Handbag in Shangri-La Hotel Chocolate Symphony is clearly the crowd favourite, taking pride for its adorable appearance. Very thin layer of chocolate folded into handbag shape, filled with dark chocolate mousse. Not too sweet, melt in the mouth smoothly.
…Layer Cake, Chocolate Mousse, Hazelnut Cake Praline, Caramel Bar, Milk Chocolate Creme, Orange Crumble, Apple Crumble, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Sacher Torte, Chocolate Pralines, Chocolate Fondue with Fruits & Marshmallow, and the list goes on..
Chocolate Soufflé and Chocolate Sorbet in cornets will also be passed around in between the buffet hours. Chocolate Sorbet is the must-try, very refreshing, definitely less fattening and guilt-free. *a bit of self-comforting, after the stomach is down with so many chocolates hahahahaha* Chocolate Soufflé may not be the best we had tried before, but still fare decently.
Savoury Light Bites
Apart from sweet selections, Shangri-La Hotel Chocolate Symphony buffet is considerate enough to set up a small savoury stations, putting together light bites such as Chicken Quesadillas with Jalapenos, Deep Fried Golden Cod Fish Finger with Lemony Tartar Sauce, Seafood Vol Au Vent, Garden Vegetable Quiche. We had a switch between sweet-savoury-sweet-savoury to avoid getting too cloying from chocolate….chocolate…and more chocolate…

Chocolates used in Shangri-La Hotel KL Chocolate Symphony buffet includes Lindt Chilli, Toblerone, Milky Way, Nutella, Valrhona (4 types) and Shangri-La Creation. We left with a sweetness overloaded tummy but it is all worth! Life is so good to be surrounded by so many chocolate desserts. Got to workout hard after the buffet, so that we can burn off calories and come back again for more.
