Xiao by Crustz Cafe brass chrome signage is now up on the glass door of one of the shops in Happy Mansion, Seksyen 17 Petaling Jaya, adding the number of noteworthy eateries in Happy Mansion after Butter + Beans Cafe, Hello by Kitchen Mafia, My Elephant, Frame Thai and Food Foundry.
This new opening is clearly a new milestone for Xiao after years of hardwork in pattisserie industry, transforming from online shop for cakes, pastry, and desserts to offline with Xiao by Crustz physical cafe. Tears of joys for the team, as well as sweet tooth as they can now savour fine, exquisite desserts right from the store.
Kitchen seems to have taken a large space in Xiao by Crustz, leaving elongated section with customized wooden tables and chairs mounted on walls, about 5 seats in the row. Limited space for each, best for couple or diners in two, crowded for groups. There are two more larger tables near to the dessert counter, cater to at most 10 pax at once. Expect the second floor to cater more diners in near future.
Le Fruit RM13.00
Pattisserie and cakes selection lean towards French-style, putting together 7 for the moment – Earl Grey, Goma Goma, La Vie en Rose, Le Cerf, Le Citron, Le Fruit and Pa-Macha, priced afrom RM12 to RM16. Macarons, medelines, and jam sum up the food menu.
Would like to try out Le Citron initially, but was sold out by the time we reached Xiao by Crustz. Switched to Le Fruit (RM13.00) and Le Cerf (RM16.00) instead. Photogenic for Le Fruit, but sadly to say, we couldn’t really trace down any surprises from this crumbly and sandy crust nestled with vanilla mousse, almond cream and berries topping.
Le Cerf RM16.00
Le Cerf is better, layering crispy crumble base, hazelnut daquoise, ganache molleuex, finish with squeezes of milk choco chantily cream and deer shape chocolate thin. The plus points would probably come from the multi-textures folding in – soft, creamy, chocolaty, crumby in one go.
Lime Fizz RM9
Personally, we still prefer French inspired desserts from Les deux Garcons. But for Xiao by Crustz, the cafe serves as a good place for intimate gathering with close friends, slicing down colourful, decent cakes. Coffee doesn’t take the limelight here, but they humbly serves French press, tea, yuzu fizz, lemon fizz for beverage. No GST currently. Service is great, but can be short-handed due to overwhelming response from the public on this new, potential cafe.
