HK Boy Cart Noodle @ Mahkota Cheras KL: Hong Kong Street Food!

September 5, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

HK Boy Cart Noodle at Bandar Mahkota Cheras KL 香港仔車仔面, a Hong Kong street food inspired restaurant that recreates the scene of the city with a touch of cafe modern charm, swiftly becoming one of the well-known eateries within Cheras neighbourhood.

People starts making a beeline for a taste of their cart noodles, eggettes, curry fish ball and so forth even before 12Noon, which is HK Boy Cart Noodle opening time. We reached at 11.55AM last Sunday and there’s already short queue in front of us. Friendly staff were giving out seats number. Glad to be seated near to the entrance with natural light during daytime. Haha.

Colourful flyers with tear-off tab handwritten in traditional Chinese characters; outdoor cook-food stalls round tables and stools; busy noodles counter lining up with fresh ingredients and staffs cooking noodles, all these gimmicky decorations reminds us about Hong Kong, but of course, bigger shop space.

Hong Kong Curry Fish Ball 香港咖喱魚蛋 (RM5)

HK Boy Cart Noodle menu is divided into two sections – snacks and cart noodle. The former covers familiar selections including Hong Kong Curry Fish Ball, Curry Squid, Gei Dan Zai, Cheese Filled Eggettes, Signature “Shark Fin” Soup, Mixed Sauce Cheong Fun, Swiss Style Chicken Wing and Hong Kong Deep Fried Fish Skin…

..and for cart noodles, diners can choose from a varieties of ingredients, stacking up your favourites for a bowl of satisfying, plentiful Cheh Zai Mein. Scallop Chicken Soup as base. Diners can choose to remain the original taste, or add beef brisket sauce, curry sauce, chilli sauce and braised meat sauce for FOC. Add RM2 for creamy tomato gravy. Staffs suggested chilli sauce + braised meat sauce, and the combination is superb!

Each soup base comes together with choice of pan-fried noodles, hor fun, macaroni, mee hoon or rice noodles (lou shu fan). Add RM2 for instant noodles, RM5 for Japanese handmade udon. Now you’ve got the soup + noodles. The fun part of cart noodles begins, add your favourite toppings!

Cold Black Fungus, carrot, cheese sausage, deep fried Fu Zhok, Tau Pok, Japanese Crab Meat Stick,  Braised Egg, Lettuce, Coagulated Pork Blood, Needle Mushroom, Fish Balls are priced at RM2.90 per portion.

Braised Chicken Wings, pork intestine, pork neck, luncheon meat, curry pig skin, oyster sauce chicken feet, deep fried wanton, shrimp wanton, curry fish ball, curry squid, preserved vege with meat, and special pork belly at RM3.90 each.

We opted for Soup with Braised Meat Sauce and Chilli Paste (RM4.90) + Mee Hoon + braised pork intestine (RM3.90) + braised egg (RM2.90) + Shrimp Wanton (RM3.90). Broth is flavourful, added with a punch of spicy flavours when blending in chilli paste. Pork intestine is deeply braised but remain bouncy in texture. Summerkid’s favourite but not for Summergirl.

hong kong chee cheong fun

Mixed Sauce Cheong Fun 懷舊混醬腸粉 (RM5)

Hong Kong Cheong Fun now goes more memorable after watching <一屋老友記> starred by Bobby Au-Yeung, as he churns out plates after plates of delicious rice rolls in the TVB drama. HK Boy Cart Noodles version goes classic, not dressed in soy sauce but chilli sauce and peanut butter sauce over the rice rolls, garnished with toasted white sesame. Good but recommends for sharing, as the rich, smooth, buttery sauce can be cloying towards the end if you enjoyed alone.

HK Boy Cart Noodle gei dan zai

Hong Kong Gei Dan Zai 懷舊雞蛋仔 (RM5)

A rack of eggettes, or egg waffle at RM5 is pretty reasonable. Scores on the fluffy, chewy filling, crispy outer layer. Do tuck in while pipping hot, as the crunchiness doesn’t stay long but we really like the chewiness, almost the same as in Hong Kong!

Overall review: Total bill for our lunch in HK Boy Cart Noodles came to RM38.30 with service charge 5%. Service is friendly, food is nice and affordable in price. Do come early and if you happened to be on the waiting list, be patient and be considerate, or just dine somewhere else with no queue needed if you couldn’t wait. We saw some customers began complaining to staffs with unpleasant words after waiting for 20 minutes in line. Erm….
