Hwa Ga Korean BBQ Buffet with Ala-Carte Dishes at Less than RM50

June 17, 2017 by summerkid_summergirl

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ Buffet 火家 is undoubtedly one of the most price-worthy eat-all-you-can barbeque buffets in Klang Valley currently. Priced at only RM39++ for lunch and RM45++ for dinner, you get to enjoy unlimited refill of ban chan, meat and ala-carte dishes for a full 2 hours.

There are 7 Hwa Ga Korean BBQ Restaurants, namely in Ara Damansara, Sunway Giza, Sri Petaling, Empire Damansara, Kepong, Sunway Mentari and Mont Kiara.  Except for Empire Damansara outlet which is pork-free, the rest serves pork – just perfect to fulfill the craving of pork lovers.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ Buffet

Many have been talking about this Korean BBQ buffet, some of our friends have visited too. We read quite a number of reviews about Hwa Ga, most of them are positive so we decided to give it a try. Went to their outlet in Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara for lunch buffet last weekend to avoid evening crowd.

To be honest, we didn’t expect much in the beginning, seeing that it is so cheap and affordable at only RM39++. But we were wrong. Everything we had that afternoon was quite good. Meat were fresh, ala-carte dishes we ordered reached pretty fast, and staffs were attentive in helping us to change the parchment paper.

More than 10 types of meat to choose for grill – Samgyeopsal (pork belly), Busut Samgyeopsal (pork belly with mushroom), Daepe Samgyeopsal (sliced pork belly), Gohjujang Samgyeopsal (grilled slice pork belly in Korean spicy sauce), Usamgyeop (beef belly), Jumulleok (beef with soy sauce), LA Galbi (grilled cross cut rib), Haogjeongsal (pork jowl), Dwaeji Jumulleok (grilled marinated pork), O’sam Bulgogi (stir fried squid and pork belly with spicy sauce) and Dakgalbi (stir fried chicken).

Suggest to order just one portion of each first, then only add-on your favourite. Of all, we enjoyed Grilled Slice Pork Belly in Spicy Pork and Stir Fried Squid & Pork Belly with Spicy Sauce the most. Fiery hot sauce base but manageable, great to be eaten on its own or wrapped in fresh green lettuce with kimchi.

Instead of using iron tray, Hwa Ga Korean BBQ Restaurant uses Korean marble as heating element, then place a sheet of parchment paper on it. Definitely not commonly found in KL BBQ Restaurant. The heating was quite even throughout the whole marble, hence we got our grilled meat cooked easily, and quite fast. too.

Happily tuck into sizzling meat, paired with shoju, weekend lunch can never be better than this. PS: Drinks are not included in the buffet price.

While grilling, we ordered some ala-carte dishes from the buffet menu too. Everything is made upon order so we got pipping hot food served right to us instead of cold, pity looking food from buffet counter. An effort that worth the applause.

Look at the portion and quality of our Sundubu Jjigae, Seonjang Jjigae and Kimchi Jjigae. They were flavouful, brimming with generous amount of ingredients, just like the the full size jjigae we had in normal non-buffet Korean restaurant!

Another reason why we like this place – Summergirl loves everything about Korean food except the grill meat, while Summerkid goes the other way round. He only wants grilled meat. Hwa Ga Korean BBQ Buffet fits both of our liking. Hahahaha. Summerkid can grill as many meat he wants, and Summergirl can slurp on her favourite jjige, Korean pancake and noodles. Yesss…=D

Even though everything seems delicious, do order moderately to avoid wastage. Unfinished food will be charged accordingly. For those who are interested with choices beyond the buffet menu, check out Nurungji Tongdak- an interesting dish that stuffed chicken with sticky rice, black rice, pumpkin seed, barley, garlic, ginseng, pine nut, jujube, ginkgo nut, then cooked in fire oven using charcoal for one and a half hour. The chicken is then cut open from the middle to release the rice inside, cook on the grill pan until the rice become a little hard. It is ready to serve with sauces. Plan to check out during our next visit.
