A Culinary Tribute to Malaysia’s Rich Heritage at Lemon Garden Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur

August 25, 2025 by summerkid_summergirl

In celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, Lemon Garden Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur invites guests to savour a culinary journey that celebrates the nation’s rich and diverse food culture. Long recognised as one of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic buffet destinations, Lemon Garden is renowned for its lively ambience and sumptuous spread, artfully blending the best of local and international flavours.

MERDEKA-Buffet

Within Lemon Garden, the Heritage Cuisine section is thoughtfully designed to showcase the charm of a traditional Malaysian food market, with vibrant stalls and live-cooking stations that invite guests to explore the nation’s beloved flavours. Each stall is decorated to reflect its regional character, enhancing the sense of discovery as diners move from one to another.

Heritage-dishes

At the Rice Stall, the fragrant Nasi Dagang Terengganu takes centre stage. Steamed in coconut milk with a touch of fenugreek, the rice is paired with gulai ikan, a tuna curry that is both rich and comforting. The Sambal Corner brims with aroma and colour, presenting a quartet of fiery condiments. Guests can sample the bold Sambal Tempoyak Daun Kayu, a unique blend of fermented durian and leafy greens; the daringly hot Sambal Neraka; the fragrant, nutty Sambal Kelapa; and the ever-essential classic sambal, a staple on every Malaysian table. Each variety is served in rustic clay bowls, echoing the traditions of home-style dining. Alongside it, the hearty Kacang Pool offers a comforting bowl of broad beans in spiced tomato gravy, topped with a fried egg and served with warm toasted bread – rustic, humble, and utterly satisfying.

At the hot dishes counter, bubbling pots offer hearty comfort and regional pride. Highlights include Manok Pansuh, Sarawak’s iconic dish of chicken slow-cooked with herbs in bamboo; the tangy Gerang Asam; smoky, coconut-rich Ayam Percik; the robust Gulai Kawah Budu, enhanced with a touch of fermented anchovy sauce; and Botok Botok Ikan, marinated fish wrapped in banana leaves and gently steamed to perfection.

The Laksa Station, where chefs prepare selections of Malaysia’s most beloved noodle soups to order: the northern-style Laksa Utara with its light, aromatic fish broth; the tangy, tamarind-rich Asam Laksa; and the indulgent, coconut-based Laksa Nyonya, each capturing the essence of its region.

Finally, no journey would be complete without the Dessert Stall celebrates the simple pleasures of childhood. The brightly decorated counter features Ais Kepal, hand-pressed shaved ice drenched in rainbow-hued syrups, served just as it once was in small-town stalls.

Adding further prestige to this celebration, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has been officially recognised as the first 5-star hotel in Malaysia to be certified as a Malaysian Heritage Cuisine Hotel by Jabatan Warisan Negara Malaysia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture. This landmark recognition highlights the hotel’s dedication to preserving Malaysia’s culinary traditions, supported by a team of six chefs who have each undergone formal training and certification in preparing authentic heritage dishes.

For dessert lovers, the indulgence continues with a Durian Dessert Selection featuring inventive creations such as Durian Tiramisu, Durian Parfait, and Durian Trifle. Outside, at the hotel’s Durian Delights stall, diners can relish premium Musang King and Black Thorn durians – available every Friday to Sunday until 14 September 2025 – enjoyed in their purest form, fresh and shared among family and friends.
