While waiting for our flight from Jeju back to Gimpo Airport, we managed to get a picture of Hallasan 한라산 – the highest mountain in Korea, 1950m above sea level.
Back to Seoul and have lunch at Tongin Market. What makes this traditional market special is we can use Yeopjeon 엽전, or Korea old brass coin to buy food!
Find the service center near to restroom, paid 5000KRW, exchange for 10 coins and this lunch box. Take them with you and start filling up the compartments with your favourite from over 70 stalls in Tongin Market.
Do note that only stalls with signage “通 도시락 cafe” accept Yeopjeon. You can still use cash for stalls that doesn’t join this “lunch box activity”.
Everything looks delicious! . Tteokbokki, or stir-fried rice cakes is must-eat!
Most food are sold at 2 to 3 Yeopjeon. We were so excited buying this and that, in the end left 2 coins, but still have an empty compartment to fill up. Saw a pretty good braised beef but cost 3 coins. We tried our luck and the seller was really friendly. She said OK OK, then filled the last section of our lunch box with a generous heap of braised beef. And it was really yums!
Happy with our DIY Dosirak, or Korean lunch box.
We especially enjoyed the omelette – moist, juicy and generous in portion!
After finish your meal, you need to throw the cutlery and the lunch box to the dedicated place in front of the public toilet.
