14 Things to Do in Nami Island, South Korea

January 9, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

What to do in Nami Island? The main reason that drives us to visit Namiseom Island 남이섬 종합휴양지 during our autumn trip to Seoul, South Korea is to see maple leaves, maple leaves, and more maple leaves. But of course, there’s actually more things to look around in this half-moon shape island that covers an area of 460,000 metre square. Check out our previous post of How to Reach Nami Island from Seoul, and a little bit about Nami Island HERE.

How long you should stay in Nami Island:

It can be half day trip, one day trip. If time allowed, you can spend whole day here, from morning till night but to us, we planned to visit Petite France too so we left in noon to catch up with Gapyeong bus. We only completed 1/3 of the island area when we looked back at the map. Should have stay longer in Nami Island to visit more attractions around, stroll along the riverside, which we miss out this time.

Attractions in Nami Island:

Walking Path: Maple Lane, Chinese Platcarya Lane, Metasequoia Lane, Ginkgo Tree Lane, Reed Woods Lane, Cornel Tree Lane, Korean Pine Tree Lane and Cherry Tree Lane.

Gardens: Gangneung Gyeongpo Garden, Happy Garden, Unchi Garden, Pitowan Garden, Hapyeong Butterfly Park, Dadamsambong Garden, White Birch Grove, Langkami Garden, Cheollipo Magnolia Garden, Memorial Gardens, Story Gardens, etc..

Activities: Stroll along Riverside Path, Bicycle Riding, Picnic, touring on train

Summarize here 14 things to do in Nami Island, some we covered, while some we failed to complete this time. So do visit for us if you are planning to visit Nami Island:

1) Picnic in Baekpungmilwon Maple Garden

In Malaysia, we picnic in seaside LOL. But when come to Autumn in Korea, laid a mat under a maple tree and start your picnic! In Nami Island, we were surrounded by hundreds (maybe thousands) of them!

2) Stroll along Maple Lane of True Love

If you find the Maple Garden too crowded with people, you can switch to Maple Lane of True Love for your photography with maple trees. More quiet, calm.

3) Stroll along Ginkgo Tree Lane

Ahh… the all yellow Ginkyo Walking Path, from the fan-shaped leaves that change to golden yellow in fall. Summergirl love this place the most but the highly rotton egg like smell from female Ginkgo trees are unbearable.

4) Visit Eco Farm Yeonryeonji Pond & Ostrich

We saw ostrich on our way back to Nami Island Wharf. Should have spend more time and dig in further to gardens behind it.

5) Stroll along Metasequoia Lane

Metasequoia path turns famous since 2002 when it showed up as one of the filming scenes in Korean drama Winter Sonata, starring Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo.

 6) Stroll along Central Korean Pine Tree Lane

7) Visit Dodamsambong Garden

8) Have coffee & pancake, must-eat during autumn & winter

By the time we walk till Dodamsambong Garden, we felt really exhausted. Had a rest and bought some food at Sonata Cafe to fill up the hungry tummy temporarily. While coffee tasted really bad, the Snowman Pancake (1000won) however, was really good. Pipping hot with thin layer of crispiness outside, chewy skin, with sugary sweet filling oozing out once biting through. Nice nice.

9) Take photograph with Winter Sonata Statue and Winter Sonata First Kiss

Too bad that we lost our Winter Sonata Statue photo and only manage to find this in our album. Cry..

11) Tour Nami Island on UNICEF Charity Train

Save some walking energy and tour the Nami Island on train that cost you only 2000won per way

12) Bicycle riding

Bicycle riding is fun too. You can rent it at 3000won per person for 30minutes, 5000won per person for 1 hour. Couple bicycle rental fee is 6000won for 30minutes, 10000won for 1 hour.

13) Riverside Walking Course

14) Pak-Toh & do nothing LOL

In sum, there are plenty things to do in Nami Island actually, many walking paths and gardens that we didn’t cover. You can even overnight on the islands in Hotel Jeonggwanru. Will come again next time during Winter and Spring. Gentle reminder: Weather during end of October in Nami Island is rather cold, lower temperature comparing to Seoul. Make sure to have a jacket/thick clothes with you.
