Samcheongdong-gil Cafe 5CIJUNG, Seoul, South Korea

February 16, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

SamCheongDong -gil in Seoul is well-known for its long stretch of charming cafes & restaurants, boutique stores, gifts shops, specialty dessert shops and so forth, where, most of them, are noteworthy in their own appearance and unique design, one differ from another. It is worth spending an hour strolling down the street, checking out some of the knick-knack, clothes, coffee, cakes, souvenirs, etc.. offered in each shop.

Since SamCheongDong is located within the vicinity of Buchok Hanok Village 8 Views (Read HERE), we first align at Anguk Station (328, Exit 2), spent half day touring the Buchok Village. After Buchok 8th view, we walked down the stone slabs until Coffee Terrace came in sight at the end of staircases. From there, we started our SamCheongDong-gil walking trail and cafe hopping.

There are many eateries to discover in this place. To the left of Coffee Terrace, you can have famous BeanBins Coffee Waffle, GODIVA Chocolate, Haagen Daz Ice Cream, Coffee Beans, Starbucks Cafe, SamCheongDong Sujebi Hand-torn Noodle Soup, Cafe J. Brown; To the right of Coffee Terrace, you will see O’ Sulloc Tea House, Cafe Yung, Mezzo di Pasta, Cafe D_55, Cafe 88, Dessert Pizza, Cafe Rosso, Cafe KONA Queens, Cafe 5CIJUNG, just to name a few.

We wanted to visit BeansBins Cafe for waffle initially but we walked on the opposite route and getting further away from this dessert shop, then accidentally saw Cafe 5CiJung. Since we were exhausted from hours of walking in Buchok 8 Views, we decided to rest a while here. Afterall, many say that Cafe 5CiJung has delicious souffle, so, why not gave it a try?

Cafe 5CiJung is located beside Desert Pizza, with a carpark in front of it. An isolated building that you can easily seen from the main road.

Not much surprise from the interior, simple, homey with ample of wooden furnishing and decorations adorning white walls.

Cheese Souffle

IMG_5215

We put a high expectation to Cafe 5CiJung Cheese Souffle but sadly, it wasn’t up to our liking. The puffy top was OK, fluffy but as it reached middle section, the texture began turning soggy and mushy, with mild unpleasant egg smell. Despite, so, we loved the vanilla ice cream serving along, managed to heighten up the overall taste of this dessert.

Cappuccino

Cafe 5CiJung coffee is the first espresso-base beverage we had in Seoul. Not a happy try though, for we didn’t like the cloudy taste, like sediment of grounded coffee.

Scone

Each beverage came with a free scone. Surprisingly, the best among all our orders. Freshly baked and served pipping hot, the scone is crisp at the outside, fluffy dense at the inside with buttery goodness to please. Halved it, spread over some cream and jam, so good! The scones saved our mood!

Fruit Tea

Couldn’t really remember the name of this tea, as I was stopped from taking pictures of the menu. But it was a refreshing combination that highlights lemony, fruity sweetness. What we loved most about Cafe 5CiJung was their serving presentation. Each drink is placed over a small wooden plate, together with adorable figurines.

In summary, if we were to revisit Cafe 5CiJung, we would probably ask for only scones. There is another Cafe 5CiJung in Sinsadong, you may choose which one to go, depends on your convenience.
