Munching Mob Cafe @ Esplanad Bukit Jalil KL: Cutie in My Earl Grey Tea

Munching Mob Cafe surfaces at Arked Esplanad, Bukit Jalil KL few months ago, breathing in a more significant cafes’ scene in this neighbourhood. Fishee Coffee, Peekaboo Cafe, Go Getter Cafe and now Munching Mob, we expect there will be more coming up in near future.

Mystery black wall finish, ceiling-to-floor windows facade, completed with few backyard tables & cushioned stools for outdoor seats;  patterned floor tiles in soft tone, wooden tables and steel chairs in dark colour, wooden blinds, concrete walls – considered a common interior you can easily stumble upon in many other coffee places. It looks commercialized at the first glance but once sitted down, the homey, cozy ambience Munching Mob cafe begins to flow in – yeap, plus point No.1. No intense noisiness, an ideal eatery to sneak in for comfortable lunch or dinner during scorching hot weather.

T2 French Earl Grey RM11/pot

Menu is not extensive in, crowned with playful name like Under The Sea for fish & chips (RM18); Fly-ed Chicken for fried chicken (RM18); Wazzap for pizza waffle with chicken thigh, Parmesan cheese, sunny side up and sauteed mushroom (RM18); Red Dope Devil for Red Velvet Waffle in Cream Cheese Syrup(RM13) and Island Paradise for Cinnamon Pancakes with grilled pineapple, ginger syrup and coconut ice cream (RM15) . All food is reasonably priced within RM20, with surprises in food presentation, as well as serving ware.

Just look at the tea cup for our T2 French Earl Grey Tea, it is hard for not growing fond at it. Adorable mini ceramic animal sitting at the bottom of the cup , longing for your tea. Putting aside the cute serving style, our black tea with a touch of French is pleasing to the palate, credits given to the refined infusion of fruit citrus-y and taste of floral .

Loco Local RM15

Munching Mob ‘s tea and coffee pair well with their sweet treat, including The Vintage Classic Waffle, Oreo Battered Waffle with Cookie Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce (RM15), Nae Nae Classic Pancake with Seasonal Fruits & Vanilla Ice Cream (RM13), Island Paradise Cinnamon Pancake with Coconut Ice Cream & Ginger Syrup (RM15), or Loco Local Stacked Pancake with Gula Melaka (RM15).

We had a try on their Loco Local, which is stamped with “good taste” from many Instagramers. We love it too! Pieces of round, 8-10cm in diameter original pancakes towering up the plate, topped with salted caramel ice cream, drizzles of gula melaka syrup, further garnished with toasted coconut flakes. Sided with caramelized banana.

The Mob’s Curry Chicken Rice RM15

Summerkid is never a fan of Egg Benedict or American Big Breakfast kind of person. He can happily say “yes” to latte + Char Koay Teow meal or English Breakfast Tea + Chicken Rice but sometimes, a bit reluctant when comes to Western breakfast + cappuccino. Summergirl was pretty glad that Munching Mob serves Asian rice dishes, even one, is enough.

We thought of ordering Nasi Lemak Special initially but sadly, they only had Curry Chicken Rice during our visit. Nevermind, at least there was rice to feed Summerkid’s tummy. LOL. A decent portion at RM15, putting together white rice, halved boiled egg, blanched broccoli, and generous amount of curry chicken.

Love the curry chicken, basically a hard to go wrong local favourites though. Rich, creamy gravy to douse with rice, medium spiciness that can cater everyone’s palate in general. Summerkid said:” Tastes like mum’s homecook curry”. Hopefully Munching Mob Cafe will churn out few more rice (perhaps soup noodles too, OK, sorry, we are greedy) soon.

Cappuccino RM9

Espresso, Ristretto, Long Black, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha covers the common espresso-based coffee; Cinnamon Coffee, Hazelnut Latte, Caramel Latte, Earl Grey Black take care of the flavoured coffee part. Caffeine free beverage like Hot Chocolate, Nutella Milk, Hazelnut Milk, Juices, Eight Treasure Herbal Drink, Lemon Nutmeg Herbal Drink are available too.
